  • Final drive Drain Plug does anyone know ?

    Does anyone know the size of the Final drive drain plug ? I just stripped it don't ask how.Bikebandit lists it as M14? I think I need an oversized drain plug? I got it back in with thread tape but it's not tight enough for me.I did get the allen head filler plugs out with the allen wrench and the flattened tube looking thing in the tool kit.I filled it with gear oil and took it for a ride it's not leaking yet.

    You could take the plug to a local hardware store like Home Depot and check the thread size and pitch. Then look for the next size up or even the standard size that is just bigger than it. Tap the hole out and use a regular bolt with a copper crush washer.

      All the drain plugs are 14mm. They are the same as the spark plugs.

        I will keep that in mind, If I ever lose a plug somewhere I can just stick a spare spark plug in it

          yeah, and if you ever loose a spark plug somewhere you can just stick a drain plug in there...

            local parts houses have drain plugs. They even make some that supposedly cut their own threads for a stripped hole, but stay away from them, they suck. If the hole is stripped, follow the suggestion of the next size bigger or use a helicoil. Also, the parts house will have some sealing washers. I like the ones made from nylon, since they provide a bit of locking force and the plug doesn't have to be as tight as it does with a brass or aluminum washer.

            If its just the hex head that is stripped in the plug, then by all means, use a spark plug. That would be badass. Truthfully though, I have had better luck with brass plugs in an aluminum casting than iron or steel. Not sure why, might be something to do with dissimilar heat expansion or galvanic potential, but the brass ones seem to not stick as bad as iron.
