  • Starting Problems (XJ1100)

I am having problems getting the bike to start. Once started it runs great. Battery is charged. Once I turn the key and press the starter button there is a delay of 2 to 3 seconds then the starter begins the function. Many times the bike will start but sometimes it simply won't fire up. I have push started it simply because I don't want to run the battery down.

This morning however, I turn the key, pushed the start button and nothing happened. No sound, no click, nothing. Lights come on like usual when you turn the key, connections are good) Can anyone point me in the right direction to correct this problem? What should I start ckecking next??

    Thanks,
    Michael

    common problem

A very common problem. The starter button is shot.

Take it apart and clean it. If that does't work, run a search on the forum as this has been discussed before and there are many fixes available.

The search button is at the top right of the screen.

check the engine ground cable to the frame under the battery box. I had fits with mine cranking last summer, cable looked good till I took it off, it was corroded bad underneith. Spins great now

having the simular problem the battery seems fine but when i turn the key its dead but when i do a charge jump off it starts and runs. after i get through ride it will start fine but after a bit it like it was. today it started and ran at idle with no help when i back out and took off i poped the clutch and it died and the battery seemed dead. took off my home made positive cable and it was corroded inside the cable end.
