With the broken idle mixture screw syndrome, can you sharpen and reuse the broken tipped ones or do you need new idle screws?

Wouldnt you still be running extremly rich because the tip is still gone and it is shorter?

Nathan, he is planning to reshape the tip back to stock, well, close to it. Any way you go about it, you the thread on those screws is pretty fine and you should be ablt to adjust it down where it can get close and run decent. .

I have never owned an earlier model XS11 so never dealt with it, if Phil says it ain't the same, then it ain't the same.

I would guess that you (or prevous owner) got the tips out of the jet holes... Yes, you can get the adjustment to compensate. It is more "touchy" however.

I think the tips are still in there, it will not idle, slows down then stalls out. If I adjust my idle screw or throttle screw, rev too high and take about 30 seconds to slow down.

                Hi Brad,
if the busted off tip is not still plugging up the hole in the carb., a resharpened screw will kinda work but a new one will work better.
If the tip is still in there, it gotta go.
My son's XS750 (same carbs) had a needle tip jammed in it's #2 carb. We tried all the removal tricks the search button could show us to no avail.
The hole should be 1mm diameter.
The smallest drill-bit my bench drill chuck will grip is 1/16" so that's what we drilled it out with.
The fix works just great with a new needle although it needs to be screwed out ~1/2 a turn less than the other two.

                  Hmmmm

May not work too well if he has the later model carbs, the ones with the slender "tit" on the end past the taper.

Those are decisively the older style mixture screws. They look like the tips have been broken off of them.

The newer ones jmnjrpa referred to come to a well defined shoulder then begin with a notably smaller diameter down to a dull point. The smaller taper is more than twice as long as the tip on your fourth screw there. It is also a much different configuration.

                        No

Those are screwed screws. Like Don said, they are very different. Yours are in BAD shape.
