Is it normal for it to be fairly loud when you shift into gear...?

  • #2
    jomur,
If you own an XS then yes it seems they are kinda loud when shifting. I am new here myself but from what I have been told and read it is pretty normal. I did change my oil to a 20w-50 and have noticed that it is not quite as loud.

Yes. It has been said that these bikes "shift like a Russian tractor". Completely normal. If you're getting noise from the gears AFTER you shift, that may be a symptom of another known problem.

Yes jomur, these things do shift loud and hard, you'll get used to it. A friend of mine rode my bike and after he got past how fast it was, he said it shifts just like a Harley.

There will be a quite a bit of whine from the trasmission but that is normal also. Performance is louder than comfort......LOL.

          a high idle will also
cause it to clunk going into gear.

Heh heh....he was riding it home for me after I sliced a hunk outa my clutch hand at work so I let him slide.

                Besides, he's about 6'4 and 250.

Yeah, you don't want to pick on the little guys, they have a tendency to squeak when you hit 'em.
