Nice job, Fred, and props on the pinstriping! Did you do it by hand with a brush, did you mask, or did you use a wheel? It turned out nice.

You could wet sand the orange peel to 2000 grit and buff it after that and make it really shine. It looks really good, though. I like
Healthy is merely the slowest rate at which you can die

Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better. I’ve always believed this, in spite of the trouble it’s caused me. love the orange. I learned to drive shift on a orange 70's triumph spitfire. It will always have a special place in my heart.

      Just not on my xs!

        Hi T99,
        nah, good ol' striping tape.
I just might wait for a month and take the power buffer and white lightnin' to it.

Fred, what did you use for clearcoat? I have a tank on the back burner I'm meaning to do.

            Hi Phil,
I used the dregs of paint I had left over from previous jobs for the clearcoat:-
8 parts DuPont 7500S urethane clearcoat, 2 parts ProForm PF593 hardener and 1 part T8022S medium reducer.
sprayed at 55psi with a detailing gun.
The colour itself is 2nd dimension Tangier Orange acrylic enamel that I had to buy a new pint can of. It's mixed 8/4/1 with the same left over reducer and hardener.

Fred, thanks for the formula, maybe I'll do it your way. That's gotta be more fuel proof than the 2 part spray can clearcoat. Cheaper too, I'm sure.

                  Hi Phil,
the 8/2/1 ratio is the one recommended on the clearcoat can.
The clearcoat's component mix is not optimum, I used mis-matched part-cans that were left over from previous projects.
If you are buying new, get the hardener and reducer that is specified on the clearcoat can.
As to cheaper, I dunno. Clearcoat, along with primer, hardener and reducer, cost less than the colour and your colourman can usually recommend a hardener and reducer that'll do both. But my Tangier Orange colour cost $60 a pint while I've heard that a pint of pearlized metallic can go as high as $500.
