  • Still idling rough

    HI GUYS

Just me again, Mark(my motorhead) has been riding his xs1100 and cussing alot. It is still idling rough, but runs real well when he gets it up to high RPM's.
He has been tinkering with it all day, but says when he adhjusted the carbs, it statred to get worse.
He has been cleaning the brakes and etc. and checking all of his wiring today, but he can not understand why it idles so rough.

Any more input from you guys?

He has been riding on and off to see if that would also help some, since it has only been running for a few days now.

    Thanks
    Sherry

I think you said before that he has yet to sync the carbs. That could cause it. Also make sure the carb boots are not sucking air. With the bike running spray some carb cleaner around the intake area. If the idle gets worse when spraying then that's an area to address.
Check the plug color to assess if it's running rich or lean. Light tan is preferred.
I had similar problem with mine and turned out (as I suspected) to be a bad (clogged) pilot jet. Bike was running on 3 cylinders till 4200 RPM when main jets took over and it ran perfectly.
Keep plugging away at it. Be patient.
