  • "New" Midnight Special

Hi ! I "won" this bike on Ebay some hours ago and I think it looks really nice. However, there are a few things I noticed missing: the "gold" on the two front engine covers are missing, and the plastic plugs that usually are in the allen bolts which fasten the handlebars are missing, what is your opinion of this bike ? Have I paid too much, or is it a good price? Please forgive my bad english writing ! Look at the link :

VERY nice looking bike! Not sure what you mean by the "missing" gold on the covers though. Both the alternator and timing covers have the gold lettering like they should. The price may a bit high, but it IS a museum piece! Take very good care of it, and enjoy it!

Oh! Ok. That's a piece unique to the '80 MNS. I wasn't familiar with it. At least you found a place to get one!

          Terje,

Are you going to park this in your living room, or ride it? "Book value" on this bike is no where near what you paid, but that doesn't matter because nobody was going to buy it for that cheap, were they? It seems a fair price for a virtually new Midnight Special.

Congratulations! I hope you get a lot of enjoyment from it.

Hi Marty ! Well if I lived alone I guess it would be a nice "furniture" in my living room...but I don`t think my wife will agree ...she prefers flowers, curtains and all the stuff women likes...things my eyes not is programmed to see at all haha
Yes, I will ofcourse be riding the bike, most in good weather I suppose, but will keep her in the same perfect shape! I hope my wife also will keep herself in good shape...afterall I will not place her in a Museum ,even she is older then the LG...she is born in 1979

                Hi Terje,
Thats one beautiful bike that deserves
to be riden and not sitting in any museum,
I reckon its worth every cent you paid for it and more,
                congrats on a great buy.

That is an awesome machine there. Definitely looks to be flawless with the couple exceptions you noted. I must be dense, I even looked at the emblem and still have no idea where it would go.

Anyway, I think if it rides as well as it looks and you are happy to have it, then it was worth what you paid.

That decal goes on the left side timing cover in the groove that runs around the Yamaha word. They used a decal instead of painting in 1980.

Actually, it goes on the RIGHT side, on the alternator cover. But, yeah, in the circle around the "Yamaha".

Terje...Congratulations on obtaining a pristine MNS...the pieces you mention that are missing are not critical and really dont detract from the quality of this fine example of a MNS...

plastic plugs for allen head steering bolts are available from Yamaha, they use them on a lot of bikes .. also on the fill plug for the middle drive and final drive on XS11's .

That's a absolutely stunning MNS .. and worth every penny, I had a 1981 MNS I bought brand new back then, I got a week on it ( 111 km's ) before a truck hit me, the bike was a write off ..

                          Enjoy your new bike ..
