    to seal or not to seal

    At the risk of sounding too cheap for the real world, can I get away with reusing front wheel bearing seals? I ordered bearings from partsnmore, but neglected to get seals too.
    If the answer is negative, can anybody suggest a good source? I have a buddy who can order parts unlimited thru his shop, but they and partsnmore don't list 'em. I'm having to wait 'till Tuesday for the bearings, and want to do this next weekend.

    Yes you can, I've never bought new ones, just re-used the old ones with no problems. YMMV If you feel the need to change yours, MikesXS.com has 'em, the 650 front wheel is the same as the 11.

      As long as the original ones came out in good shape, reuse them.

        The last time I ordered front wheel bearings from partsnmore they were sealed units that are permanently lubricated. Everything else went back like it was.
        I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

        '79 XS11 Standard, Jardine 4/1, Dyna DC1-1 Coils, 145 mains, 45 pilots, plastic floats - 25.7mm, XV920 fuel valves, inline fuel filters, speed bleeders, Mikes XS pods, spade-type fuse block, fork brace, progressive fork springs/shocks, manual petcocks, 750 FD, Venture cam chain tensioner, SS brake lines

          Forgot to add; if the seals become a bit distorted upon removal, they can be straightened back out with a tap of a hammer.

            Should never have to order wheel bearings from a parts house!

            Pop into your local bearing shop. They will have all the bearings and seals for less money.

            Other than the one rear bearing all the wheel bearings are common. Even the one wierd one was common, just not so much these days.

                So am I.

                The only seal that my local BC beraing shop couldn't get, easily, was the really big one that keeps dust out of the final drive gears.
