    Yes, the final drive is the round silver thing (black on the 81 specials) that attaches to the swing arm with four nuts, and then the rear wheel mounts up to it and the rear axle goes through it with a castle nut and cotter pin.

    The XS750/850 FD has a different gear ratio, so for every spin of the rear wheel, the drive shaft spins 2.9 times. On the stock XS11, the drive shaft spins 3.3 times. Combined with the rest of the gearing, it drops the engine RPMs by about 800 at highway speeds.
