Putting My xs1100lg Midnight Speical back on the road. looking for paint numbers, the side cases need to be touched up and the gold in the covers repainted.
Also does anyone know how many were built for the states in 1980? I have a very low vin number.

No one really knows how many were built. We've done a few tally's here, and though the "urban ledgend" is that there were only 250 made for each of '80 & '81, the serial numbers disproove that (assuming that they went in consecutive order).

As for the paint, this is the only information that I have seen that gives ANY paint code for ANY of the XS11's. The black on the MNS is called "New Yamaha Black", with this information, quoted from this post.

Yamaha 006G New Yamaha Black (NYB)
    SKU # : 5516
    Vendor : ColorRite
    Manufacturer : Yamaha
    Manufacturer Code : 006G

The gold can be touched up (or just re-done) with gold model paint from a hobby store. Some have gone all-out and actually applied gold leaf instead.
    1980 XS850SG - Sold

The gold paint is Nebula Gold, don't know the code. The gold plating is Synth Gold.

When I get around to restoring the paint on mine, I'd like to know which pieces were which type of black (gloss, semi-gloss, semi-flat, flat).

I had the local paint shop match the gold paint on my 1980MNS. I don't have the code handy, but DuPont had an exact match. Just take the parts you can into a GOOD paint shop, and they should be able to match it. HTH
