Looks to me like it is a 1981 XS1100S European model.

Yamaha will NOT have the reg number. The engine/frame number is all they used back then. You should be able to search the local MOT office to find the information, using the frame number. I would start at the office nearest to the place you found the bike.

finding out the age of my xs1100s and model

thanks for all your input and il certainly give that a try !! what would it have looked like when new as its been streetfightered with upsidedowner forks and a modern looking tank and seat with a matching back pod . trouble is it all fits like it came from factory like this . the only thing is that the exhaust cans are carbon fibre with laverda badges on both of them . will try and post pics so anyone can tell me what the tank and seat/pod are off. thanks to you all spanner.

Try a google search on the year/model. It should yield a picture or two. The UK site may even have a picture on it.
