  • Seat cowling badge

I cleaned out my garage last week. I do it regularly. I don't remember the schedule, though, because I don't remember the last time I did it. I always figured that I would get around to it if I ever moved. Or perhaps I would get lucky enough to die and I could bequeath the task to my heirs (at least that way they would get SOMETHING).

I wouldn't have done it now except my wife dropped a (FULL!) beer and it rolled into one of the piles. It deserved a better fate. A man must have priorities.

Anyway, it was pretty incredible. Many layers. Some ancient. Along with relics from several lost civilizations, I discovered tools I had lost years ago. The stone faces held up well. I could still use them to skin a mammoth, I think.

One useful item I discovered was the badge from the seat cowling of my '79 Standard. I cannot tell you how long it was lost. Long enough, though, that I did not even remember I had one.

There is one problem. Apparently back in my youth (or perhaps more recently - who knows?) I decided to reface the badge. It seems, though, that I only got as far as painting the whole thing black. I suspect more colors should be involved.

Does anyone have a picture of a seat cowling badge they could post so I can see what this thing is supposed to look like? Basic black can be quite elegant, but putting it on my ride like this will only make my cowling look like it has a hole in it.

    Thanks, y'all.
