Got my rebuild kit for the rear master and am ready to actually have rear brakes, however...... I didn't wait to tear the thing apart and now have brain lock on how it all goes back together Are there any pictures out here on Chan.11 on how everything goes together? What I need is a picture of an assembled piston shaft. Thanks in advance.

You will have to search for a pictorial assy, not aware of an official tech tip or one posted recently.
I would bet if you post pics of the parts more than a few will know what order they go in, I would probably recall it once I see the parts, it just has been a long time since I had one apart.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

I just did my rear master cylinder and if you need help I remember which parts go where but it might be hard to explain it in words. If you need it I can try to help thought!Nathan

Master Cylinder Amnesia
Thanks guys for the help. The schematic on Bike Bandit helps, but since I'm blind in one eye and can't see out of the other Really, I have seen that schematic and thanks for posting it, but I can't tell from it which way the seals face, and where the thin shim-like washer goes. My SWAG is that the bottom seal faces up, the top seal faces down, the thin washer goes on top, and the top hat thingy has the small end up so the spring sets on it. My biggest guess is the thin washer is for keeping the top seal in place, closely followed by which direction the seals face.1979XS1100SF

Doug, while I'm thinking about it, thanks for your PM on the carbs. I see you have the next size up on the jets. What are your needles set at? I'm going to give your float height setting a try as a starting point. I've been busy sorting out this brake thing, getting my wheels back on the bike and fixing a stripped out pinch bolt on my rear axel. fortunately it was only the bolt that stripped and I was able to run an 8mm tap through and get the spun off part out.1979XS1100SF

Ok, I am pretty sur you are telling me that the open side is facing up toward the top of the MC.1979XS1100SF

Thanks
Well I'm hoping to make some forward progress tomorrow (today) on that part of the bike. I'm assuming I was correct on where the thin washer goes?1979XS1100SF

The washer you are thinking of has a slot in the middle and holds the piston up against the spring pressure. I think this one goes between the cup and the little hat thingy the spring rides on. As for taking your MC apart just to see if there is a washer there...... please don't just for me. I apprecate the offer, but as another member here says, when you open a can of worms it takes a bigger can to fit them back into.1979XS1100SF

The small think washer goes on the top of the plunger underneath the seal. and then the "little hat thing" goes on top of the seal like you said. also like what was said before all the seal face up.Nathan
