Beardman; a man's gotta do... if you could see who left this morning, it would allay your concerns. I have SOME friends.
Motoman; always had good luck/wear with Dunlops on my Harleys. Like you, I see them as the best of the mid-grades. Metzlers weren't in the budget, but I may have to spring for some next time. I had 'em on my old Beemer R100, and it was like riding rails. Can't recall how much wear I got though.

i will not use anything but the d404's great tire for me this tires still in exellent shape.

the best bang id say is the s11 spitfire rear lasted about 7500 for me. they were 60 bucks for the rear and 50 front 2 years ago. the front lasted 12000.
