  • Goo in the YICS path?

    Hey, folks.

    I just pulled my gallery plug last night to verify that I don't have a YICS tool already blocking the path before rigging my own together, and discovered that it's filthy with thick black goo. Is this common? It was late and dark, so I didn't get into it too much, but I figure it's got to either be fuel residue or oil residue from leaky valve seals. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    To "clean" it out, I used a piece of clear vinyl tube, forced it in as far as it would go, then pulled it out, wiped it off, blew goo out of the vinyl tube with compressed air, then repeat until I could get the tube all the way in.

    Are there any plastic or rubber parts inside the YICS path? I was thinking I'd hit it with some brake or carb cleaner to get it a little cleaner, but I don't want to foul anything up in there.

    We just dealt with that on COOL TOM's bike. The YICS path was really cruddy, and they had to clean it out with a long, skinny bristle-brush. If you can find a large pipe-cleaner, that should work too. Soak it in carb cleaner and scrub it out. There are no rubber pieces, just openings that link the vacuum ports in the carbs. The YICS Eliminator tool has several o-rings around a long metal rod that seals off the individual ports from each other, allowing for a proper sync. The tool won't go in the YICS path unless it's clean though.

      I knew I should have bought one of those when I first saw them... I think I'll put in an order tonight. I could leave it in to help determine which cylinder(s) the goo is coming from. The tool I'm planning on using tonight is a home-made one like the one in the tech tips.
