Othr carbs?

I'm sure this has been covered though I couldn't find it on the forum (then again this forum has so many pages of posts that I could be going through search results for the rest of the summer )

do you think that other carbs, something from a more recent bike like the R1 would work on these bikes? I figure that the R1 is a 1 liter bike and I know that the fuel air requirements are different (it's a totally different engine) but with some changes in jetting...

just a thought cause my carbs are in pretty bad shape and replacements are unbelievably expensive.

Define 'bad shape'. The problem with aftermarket carbs is getting them to mount to your hangers and the stock airbox - they have to be spaced the same as the XS rack, and they need to be the same size openings. When I first got Betsy the carbs were so gummed up I couldn't move the butterflies at all. If you don't have broken parts on the carb bodies, you'd be surprised how well these things clean up - just takes time, elbow grease, and a few cans of carb cleaner. If you want yet another option, you might try PMing DGXSER. He had a wreck about a month an a half ago, and is in the process of parting out his bike. His carbs escaped the accident unscathed, and are in excellent condition. He would probably let them go for 2-300 samolians. If you're carbs truly have to go, and you're running mods, it would probably be easier to get them tuned properly if you stick with 'our' model carbs. If you're running stock, his are already setup. I know this person has a good clean set of carbs they bought off ebay with intensions of fixing up the Eleven in the one picture, but I think she lost hope. If you want, you can probably try contacting her about the carbs. The bike itself needs a ton of work, the last inspection was in '85 and the person she got it from kindly parked it in the yard since then. I told her the Kerker could be worth $300 on ebay if all the surface rust cleans off, now she thinks the whole bike is worth $1000. The body and electrical seems restorable but, IDK if it even has a good engine as the sat with the carbs off it for 15 years in beautiful NY weather.
