  • Trip meter not working

Yet another small problem....The trip meter is not working. The odometer works fine, but the trip meter goes to 9/10ths of a mile and stops. Need cleaned maybe ? What would be the best way to go about that without screwing anything else up.

Is there a cable rubbing against the tripometer knob? That will cause it not to work.DAMHIKIJK

Nope, it's an XJ with the funky computer so the reset is actually a button.

Both the odometer and trip quit working on my XJ. Took it apart and the worm gear that drives the whole thing is worn out. Frozen it time forever at 33,000km. But that gear kills everything. Just the speedo itself works.
You may have another gear that is worn or out of place. Pretty easy to see once you have it apart.

Maybe your reset button is stuck or shorting? If your odometer works, and the trip meter doesn't, seems like that'd be the place to look, but with the computer, who knows?

            Good luck!
