  • Custom Made Voltage Regulator

Remember a few years back a guy and his daughter built voltage regulators for XS1100's. He claimed he could get 14.5 volts at idle and were way superior to the stock ones. I lost the link and can't find him. Anybody have the link or know about him? Now that my XS1100 is running great and I ride it to work every night I want to continue to trick it out more. I want this custom made regulator before I install the Acell coils.

My daughter is doing other things now and it's just me and my wife making them now...

Then as now I'm having trouble making them fast enough in the warmer months...

I never made that claim. It's some charging at idle and it will be more or less depending on idle speed. The first one I build was tested on my bike, the Mongrel (half 80 special / half 79 standard.) It would idle at 500 RPM and charge around 13.75 at that speed. Full charging kicks in about 1200 RPM.

Sounds pretty good considering they are supposed to idle at 1100rpm.

I think the Mongrel may have had a big bore kit in it. It never got good mileage but ran fantastic. The compression seemed to be a bit high too.

I'm thinking about one for my XS1100E Geezer, Thanks for the e-mail. I found you with Google again. 13+ at idle sounds good.
