  • how do i remove shift drum

    well i dont understand the shift drum in my xj1100 doesnt have this star thing on the end, how could that fall off?
    so how do i remove the shift drum to install this one in the picture?

    Sorry dude, I've got a case of CRS right now and can't remember how to remove it,

    BUT that's the "stopper plate" and it's held on with a snap ring and it's on the inside side of the shift cam.

      If you look at the other end of the cam, there's another detent pin on the left side under the oil pan. Not so much a detent pin, but a cam follower. If you pull that bolt and take that pin out, you should be able to pull the cam out if you have all your shift forks out and stuff under the shift cover removed.

      BUT... the bad news, is that in order to put that detent pin back on the other side over that star plate... it requires splitting the cases.
