  • Non-Stock Carbs

Hopefully there is some good info out there. I have noticed that some of the knowledge base listed using Mikuni VM 33 carbs on there XS1100. The bike I have a 79 XS1100SF came with them installed. A VM33/A19 with a 135 Main and a 2.8 Float Valve. The other jets looK like they have not been touched. I have torn down the carbs and they set new standards in filthy. Order new gaskets (very hard, very slow) but the will all be here soon. I know the carb is discontinued and very little data on it. Also I know that I do not need the vaccum petcock on the gas tank and would like to swith to a off/on/rsv replacement. The vacoum line on the carb is capped off. The only other mod to the breathing system is a set of Kerker 4-1, and pollished ports.
When I removed the head there was a significant amount of carbon on the Pistons, but that could be alot of things. Anybody have any info on this carb and if I should change the jetting, or different float height, or anything else before I put it all back together. Thanks for the help.

yeah, those things are like platinum. Unless they offered a relatively large performance gain, I would sell them. Those things go for CRAZY high prices on eBay. IIRC, mro had a set on his hotrod.

      I have a set of VM33-A19

on my G. Once I got them dialed in, I like them just fine. It took me a while though since I was used to BS34's. Here's a link to George Fix ...there's more info here to look at. Do you have a dual cable throttle system on there yet?

          Bell crank?

I used to use a bell crank on U-control flying models ... would love to see a photo of how that works, looks and how it's mounted.

Two of the carbs are off the rail and in the solvent, the other two are still intact so I can see how to put them back together. I will get a picture of those bad boys posted soon. Stamped into the side of the main carb body is the code 33A19....I didn"t do something stupid and order the wrong parts did I?????????

Why don't ya' clean them damn thangs up, Mike? Paint um while yer at it

The smooth bores I have really feel like an acc. pump would be a welcome addition. As they are now, care needs to be taken starting up off idle. If the throttle and clutch are not applied pretty smoothly, it could stall.

According to the Sudco book ...

there were -A19 D40 for XS1100 and -A19 D45 for Kawasaki. Main and pilot jets were different ... 17.5 and 132.5 for Yam and 20 and 125 for the Kaw.

My set has 125s and 20s ... ?? Runs well far beyond the 'chicken out' point as far as I'm concerned. I probably could get it a bit slicker by playing with the discs in the SuperTrapp some but I'm OK with it the way it is for now.

There web site has a lot of info, good parts break down as well as some jetting applications ...
but it sure is a pain to find "COMPLETE" info there

Wait till you see what I've been doing to what those carbs are attached to

I have the actual book, Sudco part number #002-999 which came with a bike I bought once. I've seen that website before too ... it's a lot more comprehensive than the book which is vintage now. lol
