  • What's it worth??

Found a 1980 SG today with 576 original miles. Stored heated indoors the whole time. I have been looking for one for a bobber project, and I think I have found the right bike! The lady that owns it (it was her husband's) told me to make her an offer.

What do you guys think this is worth?

    Whaaaaaat?

Nothing personal but I can't believe anyone would bob a pristine classic. Can't you find a junker and keep that one stock?

Anybody know what it might be worth? It seriously pretty much just needs a bath. I am not really sure on what it is worth, since it is so nice.

Thanks, Cnuk! She didn't indicate that she wanted a whole lot for it, more just wanted it out of the hanger. We'll see how this turns out...

Thanks for not blowing a lid, too! I was kidding about bobbing it, but wanted to have a little fun as serious as everyone has been here lately. This thing is seriously showroom condition (it was ridden 576 miles by the original owner in 1980, parked in his hangar, and has not moved since), and it WOULD be a shame to do anything to it

            Thanks

+1 on the money but that still is up to the buyer.

I bought an SG that sat in a shed from 1983 till 2007 when I bought it .
It had 588 miles on it.
I paid $400 for it from the estate.
I did have to clean the carbs, install new tires ,fork seals and all usual stuff.
It did have a little surface rust on it too that I had to remove.
It ran and rode like new. I sold it to a friend in Denver about 1 1/2 years ago
for $2000.He still has it and I wish I would have kept that one.

I was thinking to offer about 2. It will need tires, carbs, etc, since it has just been sitting...

Have you seen it run? Or at least made sure it turns over.
I would low ball too. Getting it running and operable will cost
                    some dough.

I'd let her tell you what she's thinking. $500 bucks could get it done. And anything sitting that long with gas in the tank and brake fluid in the system will need some serious attention to those areas. The carb boots may have hardened. You could be $1000 into repairs before you even start the engine assuming it will turn over with no stuck rings.
Not saying don't do it, that is an awesome find! Just don't be afraid about going and staying low!
                      Keep us posted, please.

Hardtail it, switch to synthetic oil, get some tube-type rims and run tubeless tires, remove the front brakes and add Harley emblems from an AMF-era Harley.

LOL. I guess a few didn't see that I was not going to bob it after all. I am actually thinking about picking it up to make a weekend cruiser out of it (soft bags, etc) for my wife and I, so that I can finally make a full cafe out of my current SG. I would probably change the bars and that would be about it.

I might try $1000 and see what that gets me. It would need tires, and a carb job, but the rest is pretty darn nice. It actually has 527 miles, the last trip was 231. I will keep you guys posted.
