  • Dunstall megaphone muffelers?

Has anyone tried the Dunstall mufflers sold by JC Whittney on a 4-2 exhaust system? They have the look I am after, and the price was ok. But I do not know about the airflow through them. I would like to hear from anyone who has tried these please. Thanks

Yes, I have a buddy who's run them on his '79 Standard for a while now, and likes them. They look & sound good.

I've personally bought and ran the slash cuts on my XJ for a while.... liked them, just didn't care for the universal mounting bracket setup they provided. Allowed the mufflers to shake at the end too much, and I couldn't keep them mig welded. Big hassel. Finally scored a nice stock XJ exhuast system... and that was the end of my exhaust troubles.

Plus, one thing to keep in mind that I discovered.... you lose the crossover pipe that joins the 2 mufflers together, and most don't have good bracketing.

Made it tough for me to keep them on the bike. And I had tried 2 times to have them professionally migged, too. Finally gave up.

You also lose little things, too... like the rubber bumpers for the side & center stand. It was amazing how much I missed them when I got 'em back! Guess it's the little things...

JCW's look & sound good, though. If you can rig 'em to stay on. My buddy's never had any problems the way I did w/ his standard... and they look real close to stock.

    HTH's ya.

Thanks, I got a set. I am going to use the stock exhaust and try to keep the crossover, if I can. I will try to remember to take pictures as I go, incase it works out well.

Hey guys, I have posted another thread " anyone interested in 4-2 exhaust"
about these mufflers. I have since used them with some modifications to reproduce a 4-2 exhaust system as close to factory is I can, and only spent $110.00. It worked out great, with all the modifications. Anyone interested should check out the other thread, as I will be writting and posting the details of the mod.
