mine measured just short of 2 inches,
the emulsion tube that rob has would run
richer compared to the one i have.
Ive got a dynojet kit but its fitted so i dont know
the length of the needles off hand, and the emulsion
tubes dont come with the kit, someone esle might be
able to compare the emulsion tube with there 81 model.

      Rob,

I have a set of 81 Special carbs that are apart right now, and everything looks the same except for your mains are bigger and the needles are different. I have the 110 and 120 mains. My needles are silver in color and 51.5mm long with no adjustment.

Rob - I gave you a bad measurement before - it's 1.572 inches (39.93 mm) from the tip of the needle to the bottom of the slide. The needle itself is 2.059 inches (52.3 mm), and I know they're stock needles. Sorry for the misinformation - caliper has an analog scale that doesn't go well with 50-year-old eyes .
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

          Good News....Maybe

I wanted to find out what brand of kits were installed on these carbs. There were a couple phone numbers on the receipt from the jet kits. One number was an answering machine. The other was the PO. He said he put the 125s in the carbs because they run lean from the factory and he installed the 4-1 pipe on it. I mentioned they were too big but he insisted it was just the idle mixture screw that needed to be adjusted to take care of the rich mixture. I was not going to argue. I asked what brand kits he installed and he said K&L. BUT he also said he had given my dad all the old parts in a box when he sold him the bike. Dad said NO box came with the bike. So he's hoping the guy still has the box of parts on a shelf somewhere in the his garage. We'll See.

If not, I saw a few needles on MikesXS. Does anyone know which ones are the correct ones?? Or will he even have the correct ones.
          Thanks
          Rob

Crazcnuk be the slide needle guy. He did a bunch of research last year, and he can tell you all about the part numbers and needle profiles. Might be worth a PM to him. The needles in the picture you posted look just like the kind that come in the Z1 enterprises kits. I had them in mine for a while, and they seemed to work fine, even though they had an obviously different profile. The Z1's have the mikuni logo on them, and they're marked 5GZ6.
