Progress is always a good thing, your moving forward!!
As to the spark issue, remember this system sparks through both wires of the coil at the same time. If you remove one plug wire and do not reground it, it kills both cylinders that coil feeds. I once pulled the no 1 plug wire and pulled the plug to check something and forgot to put the wire back on after I put the plug back in. I then took the bike for a ride like that. Talk about acting screwy, that wire would swing in the air and periodically ground out letting the other plug fire, then come off the engine and kill both.

Accel off the line with no problem all the way up to 7k where my tach quits working. That is normal that it doesn't go all the way up and not an issue to me. So that was great... but then I started to foul my plugs and my riding buddy told me it smelled like a gas station riding behind me. So I tried to lean it out via idle mixture screws, that got it closer and reduced the amount of black smoke and gas smell, but it was still there.
So I took it to TheWiz in Wilkes. He had a busy week so I took a half day on this past Friday. The first thing we tried was removing the air filter from the air box. Wow what a difference. So that showed us we needed to drill the box. We drilled the 3 1.25 in holes in the bottom and took all the floats to the middle of the range and adjusted the drops. Also found a hole in my diaphragm on no 4. That probably happened when I adjusted the needles. We patched that and got it reassembled. I rode it home to Charlotte, about 80 miles and wow, this bike is great. If it wasn't for TheWiz this bike would be in the parts for sale section.
