skids came up with some good ideas,
jat, have you checked your valve clearances?
i had 1 closed intake, even tho they all showed good compression,
that plug would foul up as well.

      Swap plugs

I might swap 2 plugs just to see if it is increased resistance in that plug the fouling will follow it to the new cylinder.

It's running better now then it ever has in the past 6 years. Don' wanna sell it now. Put my Maire fairing back on along with a VD volt and oil temp gage I mounted. Probably worth $4,500.00 ~ to $5,000.00 now but lucky to get $1,500.00. from the average Joe Blow.

See if I can load a pic from my cell phone to photo bucket.

Just finished the Major Tune on the 1978 XS1100. Riding it to work tonight. All detailed and cleaned up and it's the drizzly Shoots outside today. Oh well still wanna ride it. Been a long time since I rode one that to me seems to run perfect.

Winterhawk, how is the oil temperature gauge hooked up on your bike? Is it electrical or mechanical?

I'm still at the planning and plotting stage for ways to hook up my mechanical temp gauge and it's not looking good so far.

                    Regards,

The oil temp sensor is located on the oil cooler adapter housing. 3 wires, a hot for the light and + side of the gage. A ground and the wire to the sensor unit threaded into the housing.

                                Cheap Fairing:

Nice looking bike by the way. It's hard to tell from the photos, but if the factory paint is getting dull, find a 3 step polish, and you'll be able to make it shine like new. I had a red Jeep where the hood had oxidized to white/pink. We used a 3 step boat polish, and shined he hood so nice that I could drive around just staring at the hood and navigating based on the reflection. No joke, it was better than mint.
