  • Screwed up! Can any one help?

Got some new saddle bags and trunk from one of our members,
    Thank you 'b1lock'......

anyway, snugging up the upper shock mount bolt.......snap!
    yep, i broke it off.
just the threaded part, almost clean at the first 'step'

My diesel mechanic and I have a couple of ideas,
but I'm just wondering, has anyone else run into this problem
if so, any luck fixing it.....and, how?

    Hi renegade
I recall there is a thread on this topic already. I do not recall the details but all is not lost. A search should find it,

I ad this smae thing happen to me, only for a dumber reason on my part. Anyway, I have not got it fixed just yet as I had a small incident on my other XS11 My plan is to find a decent welder and have them weld a bolt onto there.

      Lots of good info HERE

WOW, at least I'm not the only one

DGXSER: thanks for the link, makes me feel a little better

I laid awake in the truck last night, not 15 feet away from my wimpering XS....
and came up with many of the same ideas in the thread you linked....

Relax, I'm not really homeless, it's a Kenworth W9, real long story,
Short story: I left my wife, living in the semi, at the mechanics shop over this weekend, parked inside where it was warm, got down to 31 last night

but I had a few beers, and then decided to keep working on the bags, and mounts, etc. which aren't exactly a bolt on (think they came off a standard)

anyways alcohol induced strenth(read stupidity) is what I'm claiming (it's my story and I'm sticking to it)

But I did get a few of the other things done, I have a grocery list of chores to do before the Holiday weekend

I'm almost more comfortable in my 18-wheeler than I am at home anymore. I've got TV/DVD, cooler, clothes, toiletries. A good book and I'm all set.
Had our taxes done (again) the other day. The husband of the preparer is a truck driver. She wondered why I didn't have motel receipts. I never stay in motels (until last week), the truck has everything I need.

            Hey, Pat how've you been....

I have a 1996 KW W9, no tv yet, probably won't either, I'm in the driver's seat right now, waiting to deliver in the morn, with my laptop sitting on the jump seat, phone tethered to the PC, dial-up service only until I upgrade my phone

as far as more comfy, no nagging wife, screaming fighting kids (grown men really 18 and 23), and no barking black lab, definatly...
Just gotta find a way to keep the lot lizard away!!!!!LOL
indoor plumbing would be a bonus

i'll have to take a look at my herd of frames tonight, but couldn't you grind the broken spot flat, center punch it, then drill and tap it for a like sized bolt? Then just screw it in from the outside?

                Hi Ivan,
yeah, that's a good fix. Use an M8 bolt and sleeve it or run the M10 tap drill real deep into the stud's fatter inner diameter and counterbore 10mm through the 12mm diameter the shock fits on. I'm a bit leery of an M10 thread in a 12mm shaft as there's only a 1mm wall thickness left to hold things together.
