  • Why are my carbs leaking?

OK, I wanted to take the left hand switch controls off of my donor bike (79 xs) and had to lift the tank to disconnect them. As soon as I did the carbs started to leak at the petcock - because the hose was crimped. Fixed that but now gas is leaking out the bottom of the airbox. All I did was move the tank - what could I have done to get gas leaking out of the bottom of the airbox?

    Possibility

    Hey tri650,
It could be that the lines were plugged up, and when you moved the tank and repaired the broken line, the fuel flow was restored. Your floats are probably stuck open, hence the carb leaks.
IMO, I would just empty the donor bike tank. Keeping the fuel in there will lead to nothing good.

Carfuly clean your carbs (inspect your flotes) then check your flote leavel.

        Float Height setting

        go to

        http://www.xs11.com/tips/maintenance/maint20.shtml

this will give you your float height.

But first just a good cleaning may fix the fuel leak.
