I just did some trading and got a 1980 xs1100 already torn down to the frame I'm missing some parts but I also have an 80's model 750 seca how can decode the vins with less than 17 digits and any advice anyone has on this type of rebuild would be useful thanks.

Try here and see if you find info on both. As for the XS11 just do a search on model Identification and you will find loads of info. Oh yeah Welcome to the site.
