  • Huge jump in RPM

Hi Guys, I'm still dealing with gremlins! What would cause a bike which is being ridden and has an Idle around 1000rpm all of a sudden jump to slightly above 3000rpm? It wouldn't blip down like a sticky cable or linkage. Only thing I did today was change the oil and filter, and put a fresh set of plugs in. I ran it up in the carport for about 10 min. everything normal.... ate supper and took the swmbo for a ride, about a mile into it ( start and stop traffic) all of a sudden the idle was above 3000rpm, and the only way I could get it down was to adjust the idle way down at the star nut.

Any ideas? I still think I may need a new CDI.

    TIA

It sounds like an air leak. Make sure the manifold scres are tight as well as the carb clamps. Check the vacume hoses and those block off caps on the manigolds with out vacume hoses.

Mine was doing that when I first bought it. turned out to be the carb diaphrams had pinholes. After doing the plastidip fix, the idle returned to normal and all has been well since.
