    Fuel System Problems and Questions?!?!?!

    I just bought a 78 XS11 and It has the vacuum petcocks, I believe. So if I have those petcocks I need the octopus don't I? If so, I do not have one on the bike. If I need one is there anything I can do to bypass it so that I do not need it? Or am I totally wrong about everything?

    No you don't need a octopus. Only the Specials use the octopus.

      so if I have the vacuum petcocks how do I hook them up. The bike came with the tank off and I cant find a diagram for how to hook them up.

        Do you have the manual yet? If not, download it from the link in my signature. The vacuum is fed from the nipple on the carb boot. Just a piece of vacuum hose from there to the petcock will open the diaphragm on the petcock only when the engine is running.

          There is a vacuum port on the intake boots where they attach to the engine head. All four have one. Run a vacuum line from no 2 boot to the left side petcock vacuum port, and from no 3 boot to the right side petcock.

          As stated, the octopus is a seperate vacuum operated valve that was used on the Special models in place of the vacuum operated petcocks.
