the hobby shop on my local military instalation offers a engine block steam cleaning service. and i tried to figure out if this is safe to do the etire bike with and nobody there could answere me. so gurus, would it be a safe bet to steam clean the entire bike? and god knows it needs it.

I don't see why not. They are designed to be weatherproof, so avoid hitting the sensitive electrical parts, and maybe the gauges, and you shoud be fine.1980 XS850SG - Sold

Awsome. I was wondering because I want to tear the bike apart and easily clean it.. I'm planning on steam cleaning the piss out of the motor and painting it flat black.-xs1100 special

Be careful around the fork seals and any bearings (fork neck, wheels, swingarm), as well as the previously mentioned stuff. Yes, it's all 'sealed', but it wasn't designed to keep out moisture under high pressure. You can drive water past the seals and later find all sorts of problems. Cleaning the motor/frame shouldn't be an issue. Learned this lesson the hard way on dirt bikes...Originally posted by usmc_scott View Post
