valve shim tool?

Hi, folks.

Is the valve shim tool for XS650/750 the same as the one for the XS1100? I'm putting in an order at Old Bike Barn, and they've got this:

It looks the same but I know I've seen it a lot cheaper elsewhere. I haven't heard many good things about "oldbikebarn". Just a "heads up".

I have used one that looked like it on an XS1100. The key I found to using that tool (or the one I used which may have been official Yamaha) is that you need to keep the tool aligned very well with the edge of the head. Even so, I had one valve I could not get the tool to work on.

Also..... if you are doing a "heads on" shim replacement make sure you remove the tool before rotating the crank, otherwise you may break out where the tool mounts to the head.

Why does the term DAMHIK seem to apply to that. But yes, you need to be careful of which direction and how you rotate the engine.

if you do a search, you dont need that tool
to adjust the valves, you can loosen the cam bolts and raise the cam enough to change out the shims, i could never get that tool to work
properly.
