  • Fork seal

I got one seal in fine but can't get the other to go in properly. I used a piece of ABS plastic pipe and got it to slide down to the first ring but can't get the beveled edge to slip inside so the outer lip will go all the way down and seat properly. It's far enough down the ring clip goes on OK. Is this good enough or is there a trick like soaking the end of the fork leg in hot water to make the seal more flexible to get it all the way down.

Not sure what you are saying exactly.

The seal goes, cup side down, just far enough that the retainer ring fits. If you are using stock seals, I think there might be an aluminum washer that sits on top of the seal below the retainer ring.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

Seal should go in without any heat ..

put a little grease on the outer edge to get them in easier ..

The way my 80SG came from the factory ..

There is a metal spacer with a lip about 1/4" thick , then the seal , then a flat washer spacer then the clip ..

I noticed the set of Yamaha fork seals I got, are not quite as thick as the originals, so there is a little gap between the top flat spacer and the clip ..

If I remember, the ones I pulled out were 11 high, the new OEM are 9.5 thick .

Look at your seal, there should be some numbers on them, what do the numbers read ?
