  • 83 XJ1100 Fuel Lines

Replacing the hard plastic lines the p.o. put on the carbs, but thinking is all this mess of hoses required.

The carb bank is fed by two hoses. Each petcock has two fuel spigots. If I plug one spigot on each petcock can I feed direct to the carbs?

Yup. You can cap off the front nipple on the petcocks. Those only let fuel out if you have the petcock on "Prime". One thing to watch out for, is when you turn the petcock to "On", have it slightly forward of the bottom. Slightly to the rear will let fuel seep out that prime nipple.

So, unscrew that octo from your carbs along with the mess of lines. I recommend running a line from each rear nipple in the petcock to the opposite side set of carbs. This lets there be a nice gradual curve to the fuel line instead of an abrupt one trying to get the same side. Going to the same side usually results in a kinked line before long. Many people like the octo, so you may find a buyer for it. Many (Like me) have just trashed the thing. What you might get into the habit of doing after that, is to turn your petcocks to off after each ride.

Now, let's address another issue. You SHOULD have a small black box under your tank labelled "Boost Sensor". There should be a small line going from it to the actual carb bell nipple (Directly under that octo I see a rubber cap on) behind the line you have going to the intake boot (Which you'll need to cap off if getting rid of the octo). This changes vacuum readings to an electronic signal and sends that to your TCI to adjust timing accordingly under accel/decel.

Thanks, saved a lot of hassle with the hoses. I looked under the booster thing, there's a nipple but no hose?

So if I cap off the nipple on the carb boot and the nipple on the booster that should be it ( also doing the petcock capping)

You need to run a vacuum hose from the carb boot to that nipple on the boost sensor.
