I went to the dealer today to see if I could find some carb boot vacum hose clips off anything. They let me rumage through some bins of old parts. Anyway while I was looking around what do you think I found. A complete bank of BS 34-11 carbs. I have a spare set that Tinman 905 had sent me but I want to clean them, dial them in then use them for diagnostics. So I've been trying to find a set I could scavenge to get mine working. I asked the guy how much he wanted for them and he said "he wouldn't call the cops if I just took them off the premesis and promised not to bring them back". I couldn't believe my luck. Just when I was getting desparate.

        That is a great deal.

I went to a place this last weekend called Oz Powersports in Ottawa Kansas. Mainly a bike salvage place. A guy told me they had lots of mufflers and such for these XS11s. I went there with high hopes and talked to the guy running the place.

"Yeah we have some back there.. nuthin' cherry, maybe some dents, little bit of rash, maybe some rust.. $225 PER MUFFLER, or if you want the complete exhaust, $500 per side."

I told him I'll just stick to buying whole bikes for less than his one muffler..

          Restore

The whole point of this restore was to try to keep as much of the bike original as possible and bring it back to life. After I run it for a season I may start to upgrade stuff, depends on how it runs and handles. Could be looking for a standard for next winters project. I'm hooked now. Anyway Tod, my left exhaust was pretty bad. I took it to a stainless steel fabrication shop for repair. The guy did a real good job and it matches pretty close the the original plating. I was grasping at a straw to keep my originals as I've read here that the bike runs differently with aftermarket stuff and a knock off set like the originals cost as much as a small cottage.

That is in deed a good score Mack. For these old puppies you can't have too many carb parts.

              Wait there's more

Dig this, the diaphram tops have been chromed. They're scuffed up a bit from junk being piled on top but heh what do you want for nothing. looks like the XS gods are with me and Hermes may very well be back on the road by June1.
