i couldn't figure out why my master cyl would lock up solid, but no fluid would flow. i disassembled it and cleaned thoroughly, didn't change. this weekend at the swap meet, a bought a couple of used brake lines for $1 apiece. so for kicks, i swapped out the brake line. i "primed" the mc, and i could see fluid drip out of the new line. so i proceeded to bleed the brake. fluid would come out of the caliper, but not out of the end of the bleeder. long story short, the bleeder is plugged solid! so for the last couple of days i've been chasing a mc problem that was really a plugged brake line and bleeder. learn something new everyday!

The first time I did my rear brakes, I discovered that the bleed screw literally had NO HOLE! I thought maybe it was plugged, but after a thorough cleaning, there was no hole in the metal at all. Not sure how it had been bled in the past, but I replaced the screw, and now it works fine. Dealer got over $12 for that screw though!1980 XS850SG - Sold
