    Oil leak at Cam Tensioner

Hey all. This is my first post to the forums. I just purchased my first xs1100 and am loving it! I've been busy soaking up all the info I can cram but now I have a question.
In every photo of the Cam Tensioner i see, there seems to be a plug in the end of it...my 78 eleven doesn't have one...is this a big issue or not?

It also seems that there is oil leaking from around the Cam Tensioner and I'm wondering if there is a gasket to fix this or can the Permatex be used to fix this issue.

    Thanks for any feedback!

That plug is kinda important. They are about $5 from my local Yamastealer. If you add a thin layer of permatex around the outer edge when installing it, that will help prevent leaks. Permatex can definitely be used for the CCT/engine mating surfaces too.

        Yamaha shop...my new home!

Thanks for the info. Gonna get that plug and get it installed!

These forums have to be the best I've been a part of for having very helpful and prompt posters.

        Once again...thanks.

Avoid buying too many things from the Yamaha dealer. They'll charge way more than necessary for most stuff. However, for small, cheap stuff like that, sometimes it's worth it instead of waiting/paying for shipping from somewhere on the internet.
