    Follow up

    The bike had completed a trouble free 1000 mile trip before being laid up for 5 years for refurbishment - only part of motor that was worked on was the head and new clutch! - it's stil lying in the corner...too disgusted with it to touch it at the mo!

        The only other thing I can think of that you haven't already said you checked is the splines on the inside of the clutch and the slots where the steels engage. There have been a few reports that they wear dimples in them and cause the clutch to hang up, even though the pressure plate moves. It would make sense that that would only happen on the basket, since the pressure plate has to move in the splines or not at all, but stranger things have happened.

        Hope you get it sorted. If nothing else, start taking some detailed pics and post them up. maybe an experianced eye could catch something from a fresh viewpoint.
