      XS and Slow sales

Depends on where the XS1100 was for sale as to whether an '84 is a weird thing

Old XS's in the UK towards the end of production sold slow in the UK, due to the other big 'sports' bikes emerging like early GSX's and GPz's.

As the UK market seems to have been forever based not only on out and out speed - but also how it all handles, the XS was pretty outdated by '82/83.

When the last XS 1.1 Sports were sold in Britain they had sat around showrooms for maybe as long as 18 months - 2 years and I know of at least one registered as an '85 bike, never mind an '84.

The registration process is of course differnet to the US in that a plate gets allocated for the life of the bike and a letter on it designates the year of the vehicle. Therefore my bike has an "X" as the last letter indicating it being first on the road between Aug '82 and end of July '83. If the dealer didn't register the bike when it was in the showroom my bike could have been built a lot before then. We don't have course have a Federal plate indicating year of manufacturer like you US guys as there seems to have been a split in how we all do things - around 1776 wasn't it?

There again - some XS owner without too much knowledge may have got it wrong!!
