the rubber holds it tight to the inside of the pin .. it is tight.

it is also pretty tight up and down on the pin too .. there is hardly any slack there..

I dunno, I am pulling straws here, until someone comes along as says, " this is the way it is who has the orginal setup from the factory ..

The manual shows nothing on this, I even called some fellow mechinics today and being 30 yr old bike, they had no idea.

I work on newer Honda's regularly, I never seen anything like this before..

Just pulled up my XJ1100 manual .. same parts, same part numbers as the xs1100.

Found this service article, and low and behold, it shows it the way I thought ..

Why hack up a good bushing for no reason .. it does sit on the outside of the torque stopper plate on the pin ..

      Problem solved .

Not sure about that manual. All I know is I have two SH models, and both have the rubber there, and on both the plate slides into the slot in the rubber.

Will it work as you have it, sure it will work and stop the bike. Over time you will find some nice bit of rust and corrosion on the pin from the plate slapping around and chipping the paint off of both the pin and the plate. And you can periodically repaint them.

Just what I know to be true on my SH models. I just can't go take pics yet.
