  • Front end swap/conversions?

In the process of building my XS11 into a more capable performer and was going over ideas for changing the front end to something more modern and performance oriented. I checked into the FJ conversion using a larger wheel and brake combo. Is there any other off the shelf type of front end conversions out there?

I think I remember someone using an R1 front end. It took some fabrication, but it worked.

Well here is the list of bikes that also use the 37mm fork tubes that our xs's use , technically any of these front ends should slide into the stock xs triple trees . I'm sure spacers and other things would have to be made for most to work , but ya gotta start somewhere .

hope that helps some , but if you buy one and it ends up not working don't blame me , this is all from some conversion charts a friend gave me years ago . And keep in mind that most of those dirt bikes and dual sport front ends aren't sprung for the kind of weight the xs has so if you're going to pick something from the list pick something heavy .

If you're looking for a bolt-on-and-go swap, I don't think there's any out there. Several of us here have/are doing FJ100 fork swaps, but if you want to see some other ideas, try here:

This is the UK XS11 site, and some searching through the forums will turn up other takes on what can be 'adapted'. Have fun!

                A 'Busa tree/forks is 100% bolt-on with a 30x47x15 taper bearing on the top.
You don't even have to change the springs for the heavy XS11 because the Busa is heavy.

If the Busa's front end is a simple bolt-on affair. That's the route I'll end up going. Those giant brakes and modern wheel/tire combo fits the direction I'm taking the bike. Also saw the FJR1300 rear swingarm conversion (which looks like a ton of work though) but that is also something I'm considering down the line.

                      Drop

IIRC 2.25" drop. I made fork extenders to bring it back up, but I liked the combo of quick street corner steering and high speed stability the Busa front end had, so I removed the extenders.....
I am going to be selling a few custom parts here this week and will offer them up.....

                      XS all the way baby....

It must be the asthetics that make people want to take a good handling bike, and try to make it look and act better. I guess i get the different looks, but the handling can be made better without all that work, and i do think that if the person can ride good enough, you could keep up with these little sport bikes in the twisties. I guess what i am trying to say is: If you want a sport bike, then by one. To me it is akin to turning a 1955 Belair into a Ferrari, or trying to. The XS1100 was built to corner, and travel further and longer than most bikes, with more stability, and comfort. You know, i think i am more of a purist than i thought. LOL

Hmmm.....Massive USD forks, no spring change required, fully adjustable preload, rebound damping...yada yada....6-pot brakes and large light-weight rotors, and new 17" radial tires......100% bolt-on......
you can get emulators and a forkbrace for the XS11 to bolt on....but the rest still needs help for the 37mm forks and old tire tech to be half as good.

Stop it, STOP IT, STOP IT! <laughing>

Okay! I'm going to try that on my '79!

The forks are baked and need to be rebuilt anyway so a USD 'busa drop-in sounds good to me as long as no one confuses me with an upside-downy head just because of the front end!

                            Regards,

                            Scott
