  • battery box

I know there should be some play, but what is normal. I can take mine and shake it back and forth at least a three quarters of an inch at the top. I can't believe the rubber shrank that much. Has anyone ground down the metel sleeves to firm it up a bit?

Can you take a picture Mack. The battery tray shouldn't move around at all are you might be missing some rubbers in there

      Maybe

I can't think what I'm missing I have concave rubber against the frame(face up), metal sleeve, another concave rubber (Facing down)then the metal larger washer and then the bolt. I broke a stud off today trying to tighten it. The metal sleeve that is between the frame and the containment washer seems to be the problem. These concave rubber seats must have shrunk at least a eigth inch each. Is that possible? funny thing, I don't remember it being this loose when I removed it.

When I was sorting my bits and pieces parts for my XS1100 build the other day ... I noticed something with these spacers ..

I think there is the same spacer in the speedo cluster mount rubbers as the battery box spacers .. only difference is, the ones for the speedo cluster are longer .. maybe you got the wrong ones installed in the battery box ?

        Just a thought ..

          Had a beer

At the next rally I'll be the guy with a bag over his head. Sat back, had a beer and looked at it. I'd forgotten to take into consideration the upper dampers. I don't have a battery in yet so I'd just attached the box without the cross piece and uppers etc. Got er figured out, sorry to bother anyone.

            Yeah

that rubber can shrink. Got some new rear peg rubbers and they were over a 1/4 inch longer! The new ones don't rattle but the old ones about drove me nuts!
