  • my xs11 specials won't idle down

I have a 1891 and the sucker won't idle down even w/o the throttle cable hooked up, i don't need the choke to start it then it shoots up to 4.5 to 5 000 rpms might anyone know why?

There's a main idle screw in between carbs 3 and 4. Counterclockwise will lower the idle. Set it with the engine at full operating temperature to 1100 rpms. You might have to crank it down if it's idling that fast, and then might have to go back up a bit when the engine is hot. Then again, aren't the 1891's steam powered?
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

sounds like the choke is stuck on

if not, you need to eyeball the throttle buttrflies to make sure they are shut.

Make sure the throttle cable is seated into the engine side connector properly. I had the same problem after cleaning my carbs. The black cable end was not fitted into the slot properly and it took me a while to see it. Keep looking and you'll figure it out. Good luck.
