  • Bob Jones info and fork part

Bob Jones was helping me bring my 1979XS1100special back to life after 26 years in a shed. She has 19,000 original miles .. We had to replace 1 carb , some cross overs on carbs and gaskets . The tank was sent to Cali to be citric dipped to get out old gas problems without damage to original paint. Motor total cleaned out and put back together.. Runs like new, forgot how much power she had... Bob Jones main man "Bruce "was helping as well and the next thing I know is Bob Jones has died and his store closed, Merriam Cycles. Question ... What happened to Bob and is Bruce still in the bike biz?
I'm looking for a fork brace that Bob and bruce designed to take wobble out of forks. Thanks, Randy

I have one of the TKAT fork braces and really like it. If you need one, that is the place to go.

        Fork brace

The one I bought from Bob Jones at his XS Eleven Heaven shop back in 07 is identical to the TKAT one I have seen pictured in the forum.
        79 XS1100F.
        SuperTrapp 4-1 w/center stand.
        TC's fuse box.
        SOFA filter.
        Venture cam chain adjuster.
        Tkat fork brace.
        Progressive fork springs.

Bohn and Karla have several fork braces still in stock that don't look anything like the T-Kat braces. They are made from two pieces of round solid steel stock that curve over the top of the fender, then attach to a flat piece of steel and bolted on between the fork and the fender using the fender bolts. They look to be very stout and functional... much more beefy than the stock beefed up XJ front fender... but the T-Kat, in my opinion, is much more asthetically pleasing... I just couldn't say about which would be best functionaly though.

I don't know if this was what you were talking about, the type he was making, or someone else made them for him, but if you're interested, PM me and I'll get their email to you.

The Tkat brace appears to be an almost exact copy of an older brace made by ATK (no longer marketed), I have both and there are only the smallest of differences between them. In fact the pieces will actually interchange, except for the allen bolts which have a different thread pitch.

The Tkat brace is a very nice piece by the way.

The "hoop" brace is NOT as functional as the Tkat. I've had both, and you can move the fork tubes with the hoop on, but not with the Tkat brace.
