just a side note on diaphragms, i recently rebuilt the carbs on my 79 special and found one of the diaphragms had worked loose between the nylon part and the body of the diaphragm, you could turn the rubber part on the body like a top, i have heard these parts are very expensive to replace so i decided to try to fix it myself, i found that if you take a spark plug socket and place it over the needle end as a base and take another socket that fits just inside the top part of the diaphragm and give it a few taps with a hammer, it spreads the top out again and seals it up. this would probably work better on a press but not having one handy i had to improvise a bit, also i made sure the tab was in the right place before i whacked it. so far it's working fine! i was wondering if anyone else has tryed something like this and what your results were.
hope this helps someone!
