I got the tips out, and I put the old screws back in carbs because i am not about to give yamaha $67.00 for 3 flippin brass screws. How vital are these to the bike running? I found some for 6 bucks a piece at carb kit capital.com and was about to order them but didn't know how badly they effect the running of the engine.

From what I gather, its essential to have a good screw. Setting the idle without a tip on the screw becomes a ghost chase. Someone might have one kicking around or you can get a hold of andreashweiss, he will have one.'79 XS11 F

You will want them to be in good shape. What type of carbs do you have? The old style have the screw adjustment exposed. The newer style have the screw burried inside the tower.
It would be REALLY helpful if you went to the USER CP at the top of the forum list and edited your signature so it includes the model and year of your bike. This is just one of the many things where things vary greatly by what bike you have.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

You can machine a new point for the broken screw in a drill press. Grip the screw by its head, spin it at a fairly fast speed, and machine a new point by carefully rubbing a file and/or sandpaper against it. Have a good screw on hand to help you get the desired taper, and be careful not to take off too much at a time.Ken TalbotComment
