  • Anybody using Dyna Miniature Coils?

    Hi XS'ers,

I fixed the ignition pick up wires last year and I've been experiencing period misfires. I'm guessing it's time for the 30 year old coils and wire to go.

Anyone using the Dyna Miniature Coils?

Looks like a simpler mounting job.

Lots of times you can graft new high tension wires into the stock coils and return them to factory spec. That being said, I prefer the hotter coils - better cold starts and overall performance. I don't know about the mini dynas, but Z1 Enterprises sells 3 Ohm Dyna Coils for our bikes. They put out 30kv, which is about twice what the stockers do and comparable to the black mikes xs coils. The green mikes coils, however, put out 45kv at 12v input, and 75kv at 14v input. They're a little pricy, but man those things are hot. Whatever you decide to go with, don't forget to bypass the ballast resistor (3 ohm coils) and open the plug gap a bit - .035"-.040" should be about right.

      Thansk dbeardslee,
I think I'd do MikeXS over those because of the extra juice for the same price. I was more interested in these. I used an ebay link because it seemed more informative than the accel website.

The only problem you're going to have with the green mikes coils is that the mounting holes are 90 degrees off what they need to be. If you mount them with the existing mounting holes it will get the high tension wires too close to the frame and gas tank for my tastes, but it works. Here's a link with the details and some work-arounds.
