Seafoam every once in a while. Acetone in nearly every tank - 1 oz. per 5 gallons as per xschop's original recipe. The theory is that it breaks the surface tension on the gas and makes it atomize more easily. Seems to make a difference. I used it in a wood chipper last year, which I had been running with plain gas. It was bogging down on some of the bigger pieces, so I added some acetone - no more bogging. Anyway, there's several threads on the subject if you do a search.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Acetone - like the stuff you buy in a hardware store. No lie. Helps the mpg's too. Very small amounts - a quart should last most of the summer, depending on how much you ride. I've got some little 1 oz. polypropylene bottles that I fill up an throw in my bag. I put one in about every other fill up to keep the level as close to 1 oz to 5 gallons as I can get it. Here's a link to the science.Last edited by dbeardslee; 04-15-2010, 05:33 PM.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

I don't have my XS on the road yet, but in my CX500, I've just really started running Lucas oil upper cylinder lube with fuel injector cleaners in my gas. I've also used some cans of Wynn's carb cleaner, and that stuff seemed to work wonders. I can't get seafoam up here.
I'll have to try some experimenting with acetone. I've got a drag race app for my phone that is supposed to use the GPS and accelerometer to give me 1/4 mile and 0-60 times as well as acceleration and HP. Once the XS is on the road, I plan to use that to compare some things, and keep track of my carb synching/mixture adjustment results.'80 SG with motor from a '82 XJ

Techron
I've used Techron synthetic fuel system cleaner. Ford mentioned this stuff in a service bulletin to clean sender units, so I tried it in the xs and the fuel gauge started working in a few days. It's ran good for 2 years now with it. It's made by Chevron but you can buy it in Wallmart here.1980 xs1100 G

Techron comes standard in our Caltex petrol, and i've used it for ages now. It seems to work okay and I certainly notice the difference when using other brands for a while. While on holiday recently I was forced to use Mobil as the little town we were staying had only one supplier. After 2 or 3 tanks in my car (70 litre tank) it was running like a busted arsehole and didnt come right again until it was using Caltex fuel again. They've only just started to add it to Diesel at the pump here so i've switched my truck to it. Havent really noticed the difference yet but it's only had 2 tanks and the injectors were replaced just before Christmas so i guess it's early days. The bike gets what ever's available in the town I'm filling in. Always Caltex at home but I dont ride around town much, always out in the country on a trip somewhere so i'm at the mercy of the local supply. Might have to carry some acetone with me and give it a try. However our fuel already has Toluene added and the follow ups to that article in the link seem to indicate that they're not overly happy with each other.1980 SG. (Sold - waiting on replacement)

Seafoam in bike... Techron in car
I've added a can or 2 of Seafoam over time to my bikes. Also used a little chemtool carb cleaner (not too much or it runs badly).
In my fuel injected vehicles I use 44K from BG Products (pure techron) to keep injectors clean and dissolve carbon from valves. I use it probably once a year.

i like methanol, the yellow bottles of "heat" they always boosted my cages.
but you have to be carefull when you use this and acetone if you have plastic floats or fuel pumps. because they are solvents that attack plastics.
