Anyone know of a source for the 4 into 2 exhausts for a 1980G using the stock header pipes?

You wont find any. Your best bet and probably the cheapest is some stock HD mufflers. Search CraigsList.

Last I heard the only source for exhaust for our bikes was MAC, at least for a complete system. I think you could find JC Whitney or others making just the mufflers, but the stock systems were fully welded so if your not a welder, like me, it is tough to do that on the stock headers.

I found this guy on craig's list. He sells new exhaust and cafe seats for xs's maybe more. He emailed me lots of pics of some new slip ons and cool projects. Ssmith377@socal.rr.com

I've seen the same listings, as far as I can see he doesn't sell "exhaust systems" he sells mufflers, you can get the same thing from just about any bike shop.

He does have some neat projects though....

            Hi Jan and welcome,
as has been said, the only game left in town for a new complete system is MAC.
I had my mufflers rust through just behind the header collector pieces, they fell off as a unit when I removed the hanger bolts.
Thing is, you need to weld pieces of 1-1/2" exhaust pipe onto the collectors to give the aftermarket mufflers something to cuff onto.
That done, install what you fancy/what will fit/what you can afford.

              here's my frankenstein.

this is my custom setup (please nobody look at the welds and gripe....I was in a hurry) Also I'm going to use header wrap on them to cover them up. The mufflers I chose were glasspacks that my Fathers business builds. This bike sounds EVIL (not deafening but a good rumble) with these thing on.

I wouldn't wrap them.. they look awesome. The spliced-in portions look like the bands on fine cigars..;-)
I bought a stainless steel FJ1100 exhaust with a Supertrapp muffler hoping that it might fit the SF. Close, but no cigar.
But your splices are giving me ideas...

Thanks for the complement. the splices are actually slipped over the 1.5 inch header tube. I got tired of trying to get the cut perfect so i just used the peices to slide the pipe in or out as I needed it to fit. as a professionaly trained welder the welds are embarrasing! This exhaust used to be the mac 4 into two.

                    Thanks guys

I do have a good set of stock headers from a 79' which have some rusted out slip-on's. I think my best bet is to try and replace those.
This system on the bike now is a 4 into 1 Stainless SuperTrap system, problem is off-idle performance is awful, and worse is the lack of ground clearance.
Did someone say JC Whitney still sells slip-ons for an XS?

I hardly doubt the ground clearance could be any worse than the Jardine 4-1. I will trade ya, you might like it better...not!

MeatTooth, Looks like you droped one of your exhaust gaskets, hope you realized that already. You should give us a sound check if you have a bad boy running. UTube it!

That supertrapp is the best exhaust for our beloved XS's in a lot of peoples opinion. You could probably get someone to trade for a 4 into 2 system.

Shipping is a bit high, but maybe you could talk him down. Sometimes the shipping calculator that eBay uses is inaccurate.
I have this exhaust on my SF. Lower rumble than stock, nice performance. This set is a little rusty in the headpipes, but worth the chance, IMHO.
The megaphones have a 2" inside diameter intake, which could be adapted easily enough if you just wanted to use the mufflers. Anyway... its a Jardine spaghetti for $80. Can't beat that.. Maybe it would polish up, or just paint it. Its a terrific system...

I put all the gaskets back in before I started it up. I tried to get a video with my phone camera and it overloaded the mic and you couldn't hear anything. I should have some video in the next day or two.

I still have a set of nice XJ pipes and mufflers. I will soon have to replace the whole system on my F, I thnk I can get these to fit quite well. Would be happy to trade for a good XS Std set.
