    Petcock screws

    I lost the screws for mounting the petcock to the tank. I know stupid me.

    Does anyone know what the size and thread pitch is? I would rather go to my local hardware store and pick some up instead of ordering them.

    Also besides the fiber washer is there another washer that goes on it? I dont remember if there was or not.

    M6 x 1. The fiber washer is it.

      I just had one of my petcocks off the other day. If I remember, it had the integrated washer in the head of the screw (aka: Large diameter flange around the normal screw head). Given that it screws down against a fiber washer, that makes sense to spread the load out, so if you get "normal" screws, I would suggest putting a washer on there.

      But, then you might have leakage problems between the screw face and the washer, so I would try to find the single piece screw/washer type job. Otherwise, be very careful when you tighten down the screw so you don't crush the washer and cause a leak.

        Use flange screws/bolts and fiber washers. If you also include steel washers they will leak.

            20 mm should do it. I think they are about 22mm factory, though. They are between 5/8 and 3/4 of an inch. Just have a standard measuring stick handy tonight....

                you gotta brush up on the bilingualism.
                22mm approximates to 7/8" (22.2mm) which is kinda sloppy for a wrench swap.
                Here's some wrenches that will swap
                5/16" & 8mm
                7/16" & 11mm
                9/16" & 14mm
                5/8" & 16mm
                3/4" & 19mm
                1-1/16" & 27mm
                Remembering these similarities is most useful when your son has borrowed your metric sockets.

                  There are two different types of petcock moounting surfaces that I have seen on these. One just uses an o-ring in an oval shape, the other has the oval with a couple segments that isolate the hole for the inlet from the holes for the bolts. If you have the latter, some Form-A-Gasket type A on the threads will negate the need for the fiber washers.

                  But, flange bolts are easy to come by, so I would use those. Most hardware stores have them and probably some sealing washers as well.
